As we enter 2017, the National Advisory Board on Improving Health Care Services for Older Adults and People with Disabilities (NAB) has revamped our website with a new look and more content. We hope you like it and invite you to take a look around as you will find the great resources are still available to you in addition to some new resources that we hope you enjoy. The Declaration for Independence page www.declarationforindependence.org or www.mydfi.org continues to be the place to join and declare your independence! Together we can make a difference in health – our care, our services and our supports, and how we access and navigate between them. Join the movement for independence, and the ability to choose our own health solutions so that we and the ones we love can live independently and age gracefully and healthfully.
The Return of “Declarations”
Along with our new look you will also see the return of “Declarations,” the NAB Blog. Visit us to hear commentary and discussion on issues related to disability and aging that have been written by our NAB members as well as distinguished and culturally diverse community advocates, health care experts, and academics who provide guidance and policy recommendations for improving programs and services for older adults and individuals with disabilities. You may join in on the conversation by commenting on the blogs or even participating in the conversation on social media. We hope that our Declarations continue to fuel ideas and give you more insight for the future!
February is Black History Month
As February is Black History Month we are starting out with a piece by our own NAB Member Cynthia Overton, Ph.D. In the post she discusses her unique perspective on standing at the intersection of race and disability. You may view the post here, and visit us again for more enlightening discussions!
What We’re Reading!
Sometimes the combined noise of the Internet and multiple social media platforms can make it difficult to find the information, news or resources in which you are most interested. To make this easier, visit us every week to see “What We’re Reading” a weekly round-up of the relevant news articles, and resources for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Are you worried that you may have missed something on social media? All of our posted articles on Twitter and Facebook will also be available in “What We’re Reading,” so you can follow us daily or catch up with us with your Saturday Coffee. Enjoy (and save us a cup)!
On your Phone, IPad and Mobile Social Media Devices
In addition to our new website, you can also use social media to join the movement to preserve independence and freedom of Americans with disabilities and older adults! Like and Follow the NAB on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/NationalAdvisoryBoard/ or on Twitter at @mydfi_nab. Share us with your friends and give them the opportunity to join the NAB in the effort to modernize the health care infrastructure in America and drive long-term services and supports to the forefront of health care transformation. Declare your independence!
